Yahyaa ibn Ya`mur said: “The first man who spoke against Al-Qadar (the Divine Pre-ordainment) in Basrah was Ma`bad Al-Juhanee. I along with Humaid ibn `Abdir-Rahmaan Al-Himyaree set out for Hajj or `Umrah and said:

“Should it so happen that we come into contact with one of the companions of the Messenger of Allaah (sallaallaahu `alaihi wa sallam) we shall ask him about what these people are saying regarding Al-Qadar. So we came across `Abdullah ibn `Umar ibn Al-Khattaab (radiyallaahu `anhumaa) while he was entering the mosque. My companion and I surrounded him. One of us (stood) on his right and the other stood on his left. I expected that my companion would authorize me to speak so I said:

“O Aboo `Abdir-Rahmaan! There have appeared some people in our land who recite the Qur’aan and pursue knowledge.” And then after mentioning some of their affairs, said:

“They claim that there is no such thing as Al-Qadar and that the events are not predestined.” He replied:

“When you meet these people tell them that I disown them and they have nothing to do with me.”

Reported by Muslim (1).
