Evidence that Voluntary Prayer on the day of Jumu`ah is also Exempted:

Tha`labah ibn Abee Maalik said: “In the time of `Umar (radiyallaahu `anhu) they used to continue praying on the day of Jumu`ah until `Umar came out (for the khutbah). So when he used to come out and sit on the pulpit and the Mu’adhdhin called out the Adhaan, we sat down and talked. Then, when the Mu’adhdhin would finish and `Umar stood up for the khutbah, we would become silent and none of us talked.”
